MADDOX, 91
Reverend
Lake City - Eugene Maddox, 91, Former Seniors pastor of Ermine Street Church of God and Christ Central Ministries in Lake City, FL. He was born in Fayette, AL on April 10, 1922 and went to be with Jesus at 6:14 AM on July 21, 2013, at the age of 91 due to Alzheimer's disease.
Eugene is the last of the Maddox children. He was a World War II Veteran and received the Bronze Star for going under fire on the front line to get three wounded soldiers to safety. He was a full time Pastor of the Church of God and pastored 47 years to 10 churches and pastored 15 years to the Senior Group.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ruth Ray Maddox in 1947 and she was the mother of his children Mary, Samuel and his stepdaughter Valeria.
He leaves to mourn; his wife of 65 years, Dollie Mae Maddox; daughter, Mary Jean (husband) Dennis Lee of Moss Point, MS; sons Samuel Ray Maddox Sr. (wife) Shelia of Blytheville, AR, Jackie Maddox (wife) Michelle of Jackson, MS, Phillip Maddox (wife) Kitty of Lake City, FL, Drexal Lynn Maddox (wife) Karyn of Omaha, NE, and Claude Steven Maddox (wife) Cathey of Council Bluff, Iowa; stepdaughter Valeria Shepherd of Winter Haven, FL; 24 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren and many church families and numerous other relatives.
Funeral service will be held at Oak Park Church of God in Mobile, AL, Thursday 25, 2013 at 3 PM. His body will be laid to rest at Serenity Gardens, Mobile, AL.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I only met Mr. and Mrs. Maddox once in the mid '70s but have thought of them often over the years. Such a lovely, caring couple, they left a lasting impression.

Mr. Maddox, a true man faith, sat a few pews over from the youth group back in the Lake City Church of God FreshFire days. He came to Gainesville hospital to visit & pray for our dad during his surgery. He made a difference in this world & I know his legacy will life on in his grandchildren. Just want you to know we are thinking and praying for your family in the days ahead. We love you.

Words just can't express how I feel. I know heaven is so much sweeter, but I also know how broken your hearts are because of the void this amazing man of God will leave. It was my privilege to have Pastor Maddox as my first Church of God pastor and I have never forgotten him. I still hear him say at times "Do you still have the victory?" I can not wait for the day I see him in heaven and can assure him that he had a huge part in my getting there. To all of the Maddox's I love (and you know who you are :) ) My prayers are with you.
