LAKELAND - Guillermo Vicente Sotomayor, 71, Born January 4, 1938 in Manta, Ecuador passed away at his home on January 19th after an extended battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Guillermo immigrated to the United States in 1962 with his then wife Fanny Nelly Sotomayor. Together they settled first in New York and ultimately in New Jersey and raised three beautiful children. Guillermo retired from Columbia University after thirty years as an accountant. His last years were spent in Florida where he made a home with his significant other Ingrid Cardenas and close by his son's family. Guillermo is remembered by those who loved him as a lover of music, dancing and for his vigorous spirit.
He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and leaves behind many to mourn him in New York, New Jersey, Florida, California and his native Ecuador. Those feeling the deepest lost are his children, in whom he took great pride: Guillermo Jr. and his wife Klania, Nick and his wife Kim, and Janet and her husband Nicholas Tolchin. His grandchildren William, Matthew, Alexander, Madeline, Julia and Abigail will forever miss their Papa. His Brothers, Sisters, Nieces, Nephews and enumerable friends find comfort in his being at peace.
Viewing will be held on January 22 from 5-7pm at Heath Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Friday January 23 at 1:00pm at Heath Funeral Chapel.
