ALFORD, 74
JONESBORO, GA. - Cpl. John W. 'Bill' Alford, 74, of Jonesboro GA, received his promotion and peacefully passed away on Dec. 2, 2017 at 5:30 AM in his home. Bill was born in Milledgeville, Georgia, to John and Talitha Alford on November 27, 1943.
He attended school at Murphy/East Atlanta High School. He bravely served in the USMC from July 1961 - July 1965. He received 14 Honors, Metals and Awards for his service to our country. For more than fifty (50) years, he was proudly a Master Mason. His proudest accomplishment, outside of his family, was his love of Jesus. He served as a Deacon for 14 years in his Baptist church in Florida, Shady Hammock Baptist Church, Lake Wales.
He married Jane R. Murray in 1970 and they were happily married for 47 years. Bill is survived by his spouse, daughter, Saundra L. Stubbs, sons, Rance E. Murray, John Gregory Alford and Stephen D. Murray. He is also survived by 1 brother, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, cousins and many loyal and dear friends.
Bill is preceded in death by both parents and 1 grandson.
Memorial Military Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday December 23, 2017 at Pinecrest Bapt. Church 175 Foster Drive in McDonough, GA, 30253 with Pastor John Anderson, officiating to Celebrate his life. There will be a Mason service at the home of his daughter later that day along with shared memories. He donated his body to Emery University School of Medicine for research. In lieu of flowers, the family request Memorials be given to Pinecrest Baptist Church building fund at:

Although I didn't know him for very long the time spent with him are cherished memories of a fine, kind and loving man. He made everyone feel as if he were "Papa Bill" to you whether you were related to him or not. He will surely be missed by all but especially by me. I love you Jane and always know that I'm here if you ever need me for anything.
