WERT, Sr., 77

WINTER HAVEN - Leonard D. Wert, Sr., 77, of Winter Haven, passed away on September 28, 2009 after a long battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Wert was born in Pottstown, PA and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served overseas in the Seabees as a steelworker from 1951 to 1955. Mr. Wert was a highly skilled welder and pipefitter. He worked at Crane Valve Company in Pennsylvania for many years until the family moved to Florida in 1972. Mr. Wert retired in 2003 after about 30 years with Lake Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors of Eustis, Florida. Mr. Wert was a life member of the American Welding Society and held many special welding certifications.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lynn, two sons: Leonard, Jr. and Steven, two brothers: Larry Dale and Timothy Dean, and one sister: Silvia Joy. Another son, Brian, passed away in 2008. Mr. Wert also has 9 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Gathering of friends and family, Thurs. 6 - 8 PM at Kersey Funeral Home.
