LAKELAND - Mrs. Marion Lucia Selle Strawbridge died July 22, 2016, at her home in Lakeland. She was 94. She was born November 26, 1921, in Winthrop, Minnesota and was raised in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, where her father was the town doctor.
She graduated from Beloit College (Wisconsin) in 1944. She married Vincent Franklyn Strawbridge on May 26, 1943, and they lived in Green Valley, Illinois before moving to Florida in 1957. The Strawbridges settled in Lakeland in 1960. Marion and Vince were married for 65 years, before his death in 2008.
Although she taught art at Medulla Elementary School for three years, her life was marked by raising a large, close-knit family. She consistently lived out a deep care for those around her. Her life pointed them to the Lord she loved, and evidenced a deep inborn, very practical theology. Many acclaim her everyday love expressed for ordinary people as a pattern pass-ed down through generations.
For decades, she was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, and, most recently was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Ch-urch, also in Lakeland.
In addition to being predeceased by her husband, she was also predeceased by her son, Vincent Franklyn Strawbridge, Jr. and her son-in-law, John Sweet. She is survived by her children, Lucia (Bill) Campbell, Rick (Dellynne) Strawbridge, Gretchen Sweet, and Chrystl Eaves, all of Lakeland, Ted (Mary Lu) Strawbridge, Ocala, Florida, and Tim (Tina) Strawbridge, Lakeland; and daughter-in-law, Becky Strawbridge, of Lakeland. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, July 25th, from 6-8 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, in downtown Lakeland. Memorial service will be Tuesday, July 26th, at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be Friday, July 29th, in Green Valley, Illinois.
