LAKE WALES - Mike Horton, 49, of Lake Wales passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Tampa General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 11, 1961 in Lakeland and has been a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was the meat production supervisor at Buckhead Beef and was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Lake Wales Moose Lodge, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Nascar fan.
Survivors include his son, Aaron Horton of Apopka; father, Gene Horton of Frostproof; mother, Laura Peek and husband, Marrell of Pensacola; a brother, Carl Horton & wife, Gerri of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 27, 2011 and the funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, January 28,2011 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Bryan Legg officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family and the webcast of the service can be viewed at

I remember the first day i met Mike and his son Aaron when they came to practice for the first time at Winter Haven T ball. He was a good man and father i seen him a few times in passing as the years went on and he always had a smile on his face and something good to say. I am truly sorry for your loss he will be missed.
