Nance Stilley Hains born 12-6-1928 in Pittsburg, PA. and died of cancer Thursday (May 6, 2010).
She moved to Winter Haven with her mother and sister in 1939. She graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1946. While in high school she worked at Cypress Gardens as one of the original Aqua Maids and was also a Dixie Water Ski Champion. She was the cover girl for Life magazine in 1947. She was crowned the Florida Citrus Queen in 1947 and 1st runner up in the Miss Florida pageant. She left Winter Haven to model in New York for the John Roberts Powers agency. After marrying Dan they owned and operated several water ski schools in Wisconsin and New York. She and Dan moved back to Winter Haven in 1960 to raise their family.
Nance was the mother of five. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan Platt Hains, her son Larry and daughter Dianna Hains. She is survived by her sister Sammie Stilley Rex of Winter Park, FL. Her remaining children: Dan Stilley Hains, his wife Laura of Riverview Florida, Anne Peters Hutchinson, her husband John of Orlando, Nan Hains Webster of Winter Haven. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Steph-ens, Stephanie Chism, Danielle Murphy, Taryn Hains and Beau & Brad Webster and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 10, 2010 at 11a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Main Church.
