WINTER HAVEN - Reverend Paul S. Shoemaker, 87, of Winter Haven, FL, went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Consulate Healthcare in Winter Haven due to heart failure.
Born March 2, 1924 in Alachua County, FL, he was a licensed minister with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) for seventy years. He served as pastor and evangelist in the States of Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Louisiana. For most of his ministry he pastored in the State of Florida. His last Pastorate was at the Bartow Church of God, where he served for thirteen years. He and his wife Frances Searcy Shoemaker then retired to Winter Haven and were active members in the Winter Haven Church of God.
He is preceded in death by his wife Frances Shoemaker and is survived by: a son, Ronald J. Shoemaker and his wife Teresa of Winter Haven; 2 daughters, Anita Hughes and her husband Ray of Cleveland, TN and Denise Hamm and her husband Jerry of Chattanooga, TN; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm till 8:00pm, Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Funeral Services will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at the Winter Haven Church of God, 675 Avenue E, SW, Winter Haven with Rev. Joseph Heard and Rev. Sam Haag officiating. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow. Condolences may be sent at

I think of you often "Papa Shoe" it was an honor to meet you and care for you, after I'm sure you cared for so many in your lifetime. I will never forget what you taught me as I started my career in nursing and I often talk about you when I am teaching others about caregiving and the respect for all humans and taking the time to find a way to connect and communicate with each other. You taught me to slow down and listen and had so much patience with me. It was a true honor to care for you. Thank you.

We loved Pastor Paul Shoemaker in such a special way. He was instrumental in the salvations of both my Dad, Chuck Miller and my husband, David Seuis. He also had our family sing and minister in his churches over the years, the Chuck Miller Family. I'm so happy for him to be able to go that wonderful home called Heaven where we shall meet him soon enough. God bless you all!

I am so sorry for your loss he used to be my patient at the nursing home at the time it was called Tandem he was one of my favorites and I took very good care of him at the time of my employment. I visited him often and I would always ask him if he remembered me and he would just nod his head "yes" I would ask him about his granddaughter Stormy and his son Ron and daughter-in-law Theresa he will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. I remember when Bro. & Sis. Shoemaker came to pastor my home town church in Perry, Florida. They were great people. There is a great celebration going on in heaven today. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
