Steven, I am not sure why, but you have crossed my mind multiple times recently. I have fond memories of times in spent in Santa Fe with you & friend G.T. making music, a week long sailing trip off of Florida coast you captained, and taking care of Hounder while you had to be away once in a while. (He would sit down on the sidewalk and not budge. So we had a lot of sidewalk tete a tete.) You taught me how to make Ceasar salad and Steak Au Poivre (still one of my favorite dish). Your spirit is generous and large and unforgettable. I just learned of your passing minutes ago. After so many flashbacks, I thought I would look you up. Now, I will be looking up to find you in the stars and hope to hear your voice come upon a song in the breeze. It sure was nice to know you! Thank you for the memories , Tina

Steven and Hounder in 1992.
I think of you and Hounder everyday Steven. It's summer and way too hot in Dade City. Will head out to Colorado in August
to see Hannah. Will be thinking of you and "Scoop" in the glorious Rockies.

Steven,
I miss you terribly but am so glad you're free of the pain you suffered. ' it's so much better where you are. Am growing plants, modernizing granddaddy's house, and hiking with Mu'addib (Border Collie) in these hot, hot days. You would have loved him. He's smart ...and almost human. Like Hounder.
The world could use a laugh and smile.....Here's two from both of us.

Steve, I would love to thank you for all the laughter and good vibes you generated. You were a very special person and a memorable friend. I feel I was blessed to call you my friend. I remember the last time I saw you. I was in the parking lot at my job in DeLand, Florida when you saw me and stopped. You had two large happy dogs in your car and your smile beamed from ear to ear! I hadnt seen you in a while and you made my day. Im looking forward to being with you again one day in a better place. Peace to all your family and friends. AMEN

Steve----this time of year is always really, really hard. Have been re-reading your journals lately especially the notes from the Russia trip as well as the wisdom you gleaned from Hounder. The Meridian homesteads are almost all restored. Your presence (along with Hounder and Digger Dog) is missed. Meanwhile--there are 4 Border Collies and 1 giant Blood Hound traipsing about the yard . People speak of you often.

Steven, I think about you now and then and remember the good times we shared. I often wonder what you would have been up to these days if you were still with us. I really miss your jovial personality and the larger than life shadow that you cast. May you Rest In Peace my Brother...

Dear Steven,
I loved you when we were twelve and lived on Pease. Was so sad when you had to move away. So sad again to see that you have crossed over. It seems that you had a good life and I'm happy for that. I'll see you again someday. I won't forget. Lisa

Dear Steven,
You May not have met me, but I am very close to you. My Momma, Kelly, was your neice. She told me a lot of stories about you. she even bought me " Wyatt Earp" so I can watch you on the big screen. I am very glad that you were famous! Now, you can sing with the loving angels in Heaven. I love you!

Dear Steven,
You know (more than we do) that Charles, Mom and I went to Westcliffe to scatter your ashes in June. We found what appeared to be the traces of your periodic camping presence there...A small irregularly formed cement surface and a bunch of wood stacked on cement blocks...It was perfect for the tiny memorial service for you amongst the June snow...and two wonderful dogs Bear and PJ.
Have listened to you sing Colorado many times since and know that indeed that's where you wanted to be. Mom was very happy to have left you in the only place you found peace.
Taos is as you told me it would be absolutely gorgeous. I think you would find San Geronimo Lodge very much to your liking.
The Taos Children's Theatre came by today for a donation for their upcoming play on July 24-26 .It seemed fitting to give one in your name on the eve of what would have been your 51st birthday.
Your spirit is with us.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Pam-- You won't remember me, but we met in Portland, Oregon. I had befriended both Stephen and Hounder in their rough bachelor apartment. Stephen was an unforgettably gifted and unique person, the likes of which I have never met, before or since: His love of words; the sounds emanating from his 12-string guitar and his rich voice; his sense of fun. His love of Hounder! My best contribution to Stephen's life was, merely, to arrange for darling Hounder's enthanasia and subsequent cremation, in Bend, Oregon. Although that is a sad sort of contribution to make, Stephen had Hounder's ashes to take with him, on his way. I like to think of those two boys together again. Surely, there was a life-long love.

Today is Steven's birthday. I'm so grateful that he is spending it in eternity rather than within the confines of a broken tortured body.
My heart is full knowing that despite the limits to which Steven's turmoil tested friendship, family and the boundaries of sheer luck,
his mighty spirit indelibly touched the core of so many beings. Rest assured that when your time comes to release your earthly body, Steven will be there to greet you warmly.

Dear Norma & Pam,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard Steven's illness has been on both of you and the family and I know how much you loved and seeked care for him.
He is at rest now with the Lord. No more pain, no more suffering.
I ask the Lord now to wrap his loving arms around you both and guide you through this difficult time.
Keep those wonderful, happy memories of Steven close to your heart and he will live on forever.
Much Love,
Diane Victor
