Wendy and I were high school friends at Holy Names Academy in Spokane. We continued our friendship when we later reconnected in Portland, Oregon. We had some good times and created wonderful memories while raising our young children.
I missed Wendy and her family when they moved to Florida in 1984, but grateful we met again when years later I made a business trip to Orlando. Although it had been a long time, our friendship picked up right where it left off. That's who Wendy was--once a friend, always a friend.
I am saddened for her family, especially her girls, Trina and Sheryl. She will be missed.

Mom had a great "wicked" sense of humor as she would say, and she could be as airy as a windy day. She was determined and strong. Once she made up her mind about something, right or wrong, she rarely changed her decision anytime soon, if ever.

Mom was not a passive observer of life. Mom jumped right in and steered her life the way she decided. It wasn't always what others would do, but she didn't much care about what others thought, except her husband. Depending on the subject, even that may have been up for discussion.

She grabbed a hold of life and rode the ups and downs like a roller coaster, rather than a tragedy at times, it was an adventure. She found a way to fight back from the toughest of all losses and smile, finding peace with it while loving the highs, like a school girl.

Many people don't know the jobs she held in her life. She was rather versatile. She was a bookkeeper, a convenience store cashier, became a machinist, build armatures for airplane wings, got a CDL and drove long haul with her husband, which is the most ironic, because I was with her when she learned to drive a stick shift. The kids from the neighborhood would yell, "Get in the car, Wendy is practicing!" and we would laugh ourselves silly in the back seat. She killed it at nearly every stop. Finally, she retired as a Dept of Ag citrus inspector. Climbed trees, counting limbs until she was 66.

She was simple in that she didn't want for much. She was not materialistic, at all. When a special event would come up, she would always ask, "Do I have to dress up? Are you going to make me dress up? Can I wear jeans?" If you knew her, then you likely knew her preferred attire was a sweatshirt, at any time of year, of course, with jeans. She could pull it off, she had that kind of swagger.

I firmly believe she chose to leave this earth in the final hours of 2018, no desire to see 2019 at all. She left on her terms, when she was ready, and not a moment before. The last conversation I had with her, she was in a great mood and sounded well. An hour later she slipped into Heaven, as we would all like, taking a nap. What has been a sad time for her family, is a time of reunion and pure joy for her. 25 years she waited. Setting the example of what patience and the enduring love of a mom looks like.

I will and do miss you already, Mom. I love you. Give Jimmy my love.

Love,
Rina May
