William Rhoades Obituary

Lake Wales HospitalWINTER HAVEN -- Mr. William Taylor Rhoades of Winter Haven died of natural causes associated with old age Monday (March 27, 2006) at home. He was 95.Born in Manila, Philippines, in 1910, he came to Winter Haven in 1971. He retired as a controller and assistant controller for the U.S. State Department, Agency for International Development. He later worked as a consultant to International Development Services Inc. in Panama. He graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and he returned to school, receiving certificates as a hospital orderly, EMT1 and registered nurse. He worked at Lake Wales Hospital for several years. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He served in the Army Quartermaster Corps during World War II and the Officer's Reserve Corps.Mr. Rhoades was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Virginia. He is survived by his sons, Rex, Winter Haven, John, Wheaton, Ill., and Bill, Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren.Memorial services will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland. Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven.
