Kim Griffin Obituary

Kim Elliott Griffin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and exceptional friend to many, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 20, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was 91 years old.

Born in Castalia, North Carolina, Kim was the cherished son of the late A.C. and Vera Griffin. A native of Nash County, he graduated from Nash High School before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University-forever proud to be part of Pirate Nation. He went on to receive his graduate degree from Auburn University.

Kim served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1956, where he fully embraced the culture, mastered the German language, and built lifelong friendships.

In 1955, Kim married the love of his life, Jean Joyner Griffin, with whom he shared 68 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, respect, and unwavering devotion. He is survived by his devoted wife Jean; their daughter Sandra Griffin Cole of Wilmington, NC; their son Mark Griffin and his wife Tish of Raleigh, NC; and their daughter Molly Griffin Brown and her husband Ian Brown of Greenville, NC; nieces and nephews: Steve Griffin, David Griffin, Donna Ball, and Dawn Coleman whom he adored; and sisters-in-law Ann Griffin and Ramona Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his three beloved brothers: Lloyd Griffin, Ronald Griffin, and Jerry Griffin; and his sister-in-law Jewel Griffin; and his granddaughter Katherine Letitia Griffin.

Professionally, Kim was appointed as assistant Director at John Umstead Hospital, where he led the Vocational Division, designing and coordinating innovative programs that served countless individuals and families. He was deeply committed to helping others and made a lasting impact in the field of mental health services.

A man of deep faith, Kim was a dedicated elder at Butner Presbyterian Church, where he served with humility and grace.

His legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on through those who knew and cherished him.

A graveside service will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 102 Moss Road, Creedmoor, NC 27522 on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM.

Donations, if desired, should be made to: The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
