DANIEL D. DROLL
McALLEN - Daniel D. Droll, at the age of 83, passed away on October 7, 2009. He was born in Rowena, Texas, on August 15, 1926, and raised on his family's cotton farm. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Dan studied geology and graduated from the University of Texas, after which he was employed by McCullough Tool Co, as a logging engineer, salesman and headed the company in Mexico and South America.
Dan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Earnest, and his sister Alma (Exley) Mixon of Georgetown, Texas. His children: Maria Elena (Enrique) Martinez of Queretaro, Mexico, Dina (John) Tunberg of McAllen, David (Laura) Droll of Carrollton, Texas, as well as six grandchildren, Juan Enrique and Jose Francisco Martinez, Nathaniel and Rachel Tunberg, Kyle and Dylan Droll.
Dan's interests included the Boy Scouts of America during the years of 1970 to 2004. He was an active and enthusiastic member of Troop 68. He was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for many decades. Dan was a member of a local woodcarving club, which had meetings and shows, enjoying the activity and other people in the club. Dan will best be remembered for his sense of humor and comradeship, especially with his coffee-drinking buddies at Whataburger.
Rosary will be held on Sunday, October 11 at 7 pm, and funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 12 , both at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen.
