David Guerra Obituary

McAllen - David Homer Guerra, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away on August 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 19, 1944, to James Homer and Nannie Louise Thompson Guerra in Laredo, Texas. He was raised in Rio Grande City and was the valedictorian of Rio Grande City High School's Class of 1962. After graduating from St. Mary's University School of Law with high honors, he became a local attorney and became a partner in the firm now known as King, Guerra & Davis, in Mission, where he specialized in real estate transactions, municipal law, oil & gas law, estate & probate law, and loan closings for financial institutions. He served as the City Attorney of Mission for many years. David was a man of deep faith and family. He was a true servant and always put others first. He was respected by all because of his integrity and virtue. A parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, he spent many years as a Eucharistic minister, a Lector, and usher. David loved fishing and was a keen observer of national and local politics. He had an endless list of accomplishments but his most fulfilling life achievement was his family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. David is remembered by his caring and devoted wife of 56 years, Rosa Maria Muñoz Guerra and children: Catherine Louise Guerra Bartolomucci (H. Christopher Bartolomucci) of Leesburg, Virginia, James Hillary Guerra of McAllen, Elena Imelda Guerra Davis (Peter F. Davis) of Dallas, and John Frederick Guerra of McAllen. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Emma Catherine, Ava Rose, Anthony Barrett, Antonella Siena Bartolomucci, and Luke David, Liliana Imelda, and Liam James Davis. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, September 1, 2025 at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen between the hours of four and six o'clock in the evening. A recitation of the Rosary will take place at five o'clock in the afternoon. The Funeral Mass and Interment will be private.

In working with David on City of Mission issues from 1986 until I retired in 2012, he provided the most professional counsel with a blend of wit and humor. He'd jokingly would refer to me as his 'co-counsel' where we shared more than a few laughs. Regardless of the political issue faced, I knew he would do the right thing; reflecting his Christian faith & discipleship. My prayer is that comfort may be felt by his family & loving friends knowing that David lived a full life, leaving an exemplary legacy of faith, integrity, and goodness.

My wife and I would like to extend our deepest condolences on the passing of David. As a former City Council member and Mayor of Mission, I spent many hours with David from the mid-1980s to 1998. It's challenging to summarize in a few words the man I knew through all those meetings, some of which lasted through midnight on many occasions. I can only say that he was always without question a man of rock solid integrity who always acted without waviering. The city was better for his dedicated service.
