Enrique Cavazos Obituary

McAllen - Rick was born on February 15, 1960. He passed away on January 1, 2021 due to COVID-19. He was preceded by his father, Enrique "Henry" Cavazos Sr., and his mother Alice Herrera Torres. He is survived by his sisters Mary Alice Cavazos Rios (David, Two nephews, Marco Antonio Rios [Mary] and David Arturo Rios [Annette] and the loves of his life, his grand nieces and nephews, Juliana and Cristian Rios and Joaquin, Johaan and Olivia Rios) and sister Nicole Cavazos Saldana (Fidel) their two daughters Jasmine and Adelynn Saldana and brother Leo Kevin Cavazos.

Rick was very well known for his generosity and volunteered with many community service organizations. He participated for years with Crime Stoppers helping raise funds and any other activity where he was asked to help. Rick was very close to his Dad, Henry. At 7 years old he helped where needed at his Dad's businesses Valley Radio and TV Sales and Repairs in Pharr, later with Pyramid Roofing. He was honored twice by the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with the "Compadre Ambassador of the Year" for 2008 and 2009.

Rick was also very active in local politics readily volunteering his time and efforts whenever his candidate of choice needed help. Many local officeholders regularly called on him and he never let them down.

The most important thing in Rick's life was his love for Jesus Christ. He loved going to church. He was constantly counseling and comforting his many friends via emails, Facebook, text and old-fashioned calls. So many of his friends have left messages of how he helped them through some tough times. He would readily pray for and pray with his friends whenever asked to. Thank you to all love expressed by the more than 400 messages of condolences, prayers and wonderful words of encouragement we have received.

Rick is dearly missed especially by his family. There is a hole in our hearts that will never go away, but we are comforted knowing that he is walking the streets of Gold with our Lord Jesus Christ and his beloved parents.

We will always LOVE you Rick.. XXX OOO

I met Rick and Alicia ovet 30 years ago when I worked with Genetics. Rick was an amazing young man who loved life and life loved him. Despite his challenges he over came them due to his persistent and his mother’s support! He played a vital role in bringing Dr. Kenneth Slayer, craneofacial surgeon to McAllen. He enjoyed being part of change in people lives! Rick, while here on Earth, did not waste any time being a light of Hope to many!
