George Mesquita Obituary

McAllen - George Anthony Mesquita passed away with family by his side on December 8, 2025.

George was born in Galveston on June 26, 1955, a proud BOI (born on island). He graduated from Ball High School and St. Edward's University in Austin, where he met the love of his life, Laura. After living briefly in Del Rio, they moved to McAllen to start their family.

He lived an active life as an avid tennis player and cyclist. Eventually slowed by family life and age, he'd relive his glory days through stories of being on the practice team at UT rather than the Varsity team, prioritizing school over the team. He had a love for cars and keeping busy; he spent weekends working on and washing all the family cars and maintaining the yard and pool. Of course, his biggest achievement and source of pride were his kids, only surpassed by the love he had for his two grandsons. Although he was a grandparent with Laura for a brief time, he more than made up for Laura's absence by being the best Papa G to his boys, proudly cruising in his Subaru with the vanity plate "PAPAGEO".

George is preceded in death by his wife, Laura Mesquita; parents, Paul and Evelina B. de Mesquita; and his sister Teri Hall.

Mr. Mesquita is survived by his two children, Brandon (Arezou) Mesquita and Teri (Patrick) Hebert; two grandsons, Reed Hebert, Adrian Mesquita; two siblings, Yvonne Turner, Jon Mesquita; in-laws, Alberto and Bache Guerra, Sandra (John) Joyal, Carla (Robert) Woods, Liza Guerra, Alberto Guerra III; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family.

A celebration of life will be held at Koko's Café Uptown on North 10th St. in McAllen on Saturday, December 27 from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CAMP University (www.campuniversity.org).
