Helen Thomas Obituary
EDINBURG - Helen Thomas, age 90, passed away August 26, 2008 at her residence in San Juan.
Helen was a longtime resident of Edinburg, TX but was born in Harlingen, TX to Otho Luther Jeffrey and Emma Lula James on September 1, 1917. Helen graduated from Harlingen High School and married Erwin (Red) Major Thomas in July, 1938. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Edinburg for 75 plus years.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband, son, Erwin (Butch) Thomas and daughter, June Bowden. Also preceded in death by brothers O.L. Jeffrey, Jr and John Jeffrey, and by sisters Blanche Gary and Allene Magann.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Jim) Gernentz; brothers, G. Wayne Jeffrey (Mary), and James Jeffrey (Ann); sister-in-law, Virginia Yoder and son-in-law, Patrick Bowden. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Our special Mom and Grandmom will be missed dearly.
Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Skinner Silva Funeral Home in Pharr. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, 2 p.m. at Skinner Silva Funeral Home in Pharr, with Rev. Mark Rotramel officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to thank her special care-giver and friend, Lupita Chapa, and all of her doctors Dr. Juan Salazar, Dr Terry Posluzny, Dr. Jose Igoa, and Dr George Amegin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rio Grande Childrens Home, 3780 N. Bentsen Palm Drive, Mission, TX 78574.
Skinner Silva Funeral Home in Pharr is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Muriel Thomas was a friend who took the hard knocks of life with patience. She lost her husband, her daughter and her son yet her faith in God never wavered. She was an example to all of us who knew and loved her.
