LT. COL. JAMES ROBERT ELLIOTT McALLEN - Lt. Col. James Robert Elliott, 76, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013. Lt. Col. Elliott was born June 29, 1937 in Goldthwaite, Texas. He is the son of the late John Lee Elliott and the late Floy Inez (Culver) Elliott. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War in 1960 and retired in 1988. He was later employed by Mercedes I.S.D. as Senior J.R.O.T.C. Instructor until retirement in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Martha A. (de la Fuente) Elliott; three sons, Cary Elliott, Chesley Elliott and Steve Elliott (Samantha); two daughters, Kelly Ann Herring (Jamie) and Celeste A. Martinez (Brian); two brothers, Gene Elliott (Bridgett), Lynn Elliott (Marsha); his sister, Johnny Beth Elliott and is presceded by his late brother Jimmy Don Elliott; he also has four grandchildren, Leah Nicole Turner (Austin), Kayla Nunn (Terrence), Caitlin and Brooklyn. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Sunday, November 3, 2013 with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 am Monday, November 4, 2013 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
