Jose Cuadra Obituary

Mercedes - Jose Santos Cuadra, 73, entered eternal rest June 2, 2017. He was born on November 1, 1943 and was a lifelong resident of Mercedes TX.

Santos dedicated his life to his faith and family. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints, with an unwavering testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. He held various ecclesiastical callings over the years, serving church members with sincere love and compassion. One of his most treasured callings was as a church service missionary, ensuring that the needs of the many young men and women serving full-time missions in the Texas McAllen Mission were met.

Santos supported his family by working in various industries, including printing, cattle sales, and agriculture. By his example, he taught his daughters the importance of integrity, a strong work ethic, and the pursuit and application of an education. Along with personal responsibility, Santos also instilled a great love of family and life. His greatest joy was his wife, his daughters, and his grandchildren. Their smiles and laughter, which he generated often, were the harmonious chords in his deep, life-long love of family and music.

Santos is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Eva Cavazos Cuadra; five daughters, Ida Cuadra, Irene (Demetri) Ganiaris, Diana (Manny) Alaniz, Dalia (Jason) Nackos, Elizabeth Cuadra; and six precious grandchildren, two from New York - Chloe Alexandra and Lukas James Ganiaris, and four from Utah - Ali Ruth, Hannah Maria, Landry Santos, and Olivia Rae Nackos.

He is also survived by four siblings, Carmen Azoca, Amparo (Merced) Gonzales, Feliciano (Yolanda) Cuadra, and Javier Cuadra. In addition to immediate family, he is survived by an aunt, Dominga Cuadra Mendoza, an uncle, Fidel Amaya Hernandez, both of Monterrey, Mexico, and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Feliciano and Maria Ybarra Cuadra, and his brother Arturo Cuadra.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m on Monday, June 5, 2017, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m, at Garcia & Treviño Funeral Home, 439 S. Vermont Ave, Mercedes, TX.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 210 S. Westgate in Weslaco, TX. Burial will immediately follow at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park in La Feria, TX.

Cuadra family my sincere condolences to his family. You may not know me but the Cuadra family knew my mother Tomasa Garces who passed away in 2013. With much gratitude to Mr Cuadra an his wife Carmen my mother was also very thankful for all your help when she lived in Mercedes. May he have rest now an may his family have Gods peace in their hearts. Thank you for all you did for my mother.

Dear Cuadra Family, I grew up in Weslaco and knew of the wonderful Cuadra family. I recall Santos and Carmen very well through meetings and activities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. President Cuadra, Santos's father, spoke at my mother's funeral. President Cuadra was such a spiritual leader. My mother, Adela, spoke of him often in admiration for his great example and Christlike love to all and it appears that Santos followed in his father's footsteps.
Please know that my love and prayers will continue for your families, especially Eva, his wife. It is such a comfort to know that we know that "Families Are Forever".

We will miss this great man. It was our pleasure to work alongside Elder Cuadra for more than a year as he served faithfully in his calling as a Church Service Missionary in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There was no finer example of a Christ-like man.

Hasta ver, hasta ver,
hasta vernos con el Rey,
hasta ver, hasta ver,
para siempre Dios esté con vos.
