Hi! I am running on Memorial Day with the Wear Blue to Remember San Antonio Chapter. I asked to get assigned a fallen hero and you were the one I was assigned. I am very honored to be running for you and your family. I'm donating my 5 miles to you. I will print your picture which I have found online and will be running to honor your courageous unselfishness to our country. I have never met you, but I thank you and you are not forgotten.

I am from a small Catholic parish in Orange County, California, and I have been praying for your family this last week and will continue to. My church has a basket full of names of men and women that have died this last year in the service for our country. I drew out Jose name and want you to know how much I respect his service. This last year I am sure has been very hard for you and that Memorial Day brought back more memories. Jose made the ultimate sacrifice and I thank you for letting me honor Jose as my hero. We are free because of Jose and his fellow soldiers were so brave. Thank you. May God Be With You Always. Hunter Piper

Jose,

I miss just as much today as I did the day you left this earth. I think of you often. I reference you a lot. You were the greatest friend that any one could ever ask for. I miss our conversations and our off the wall subjects. I miss your words of encouragement and your words of a true friend. As the holidays come up I think of your family as well. I pray that God gives them comfort during these times and always. I will NEVER forget you my friend. My hero, my Brother in arms! Love you Buddy!!

My dear friend, it still hurts a lot to know that you are not here with us but what helps me cope is knowing that you're in a better place smiling like always. It is so true when they say God takes the good ones first and now I can agree 100%. I miss our conversations and your words, you always knew what to say. Words cant express how much I miss you and love you. I was at the post office today and saw a Soldier and as I was leaving I reached out to give him a hand shake to Thank him for his service and to say God Bless. I got into my truck and cried my eyes out but I know that happened for a reason, I believe it was you telling/showing, I don't know how to describe it, that all would be okay. I've been having some rough weeks and could always log on to FB and you'd be there and know what to say exactly to help ease my worries. I love you my friend. Rest In Peace.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jose will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

A true hero has gone to rest. He is waiting on the green for his brothers in arms to join him in the future. Jose was in the same class with my son, CW2 Robert Cronin, at Fort Rucker, Al. They became very good friends and have remained so throughout their Army careers. When I went to their Graduation I had the pleasure of meeting him. He will be missed by many and when the pilots gather his name will come up and tale will be told. Thus, he will live on forever in their hearts. I am sorry for your loss,

Monte met with us in North Carolina this last July while on his R and R. He flew with my son 1Lt Mathew Fazzari and Captain Scott Pace when they were shot down and killed by enemy fire to their OH 58D. Monte shared so passionately and kindly that time he had flying that mission with Mathew and Scottie. Our families are forever indebted to him for fighting so bravely with them on June 6 and then for meeting with the families on July 11. Thank you Monte for your bravery and heroism both in Afghanistan and again with us. May the Lord keep you and watch over you. We look forward to seeing you in heaven. Say hello to Mathew and Scottie there from us

God fortells a time when He will establish peace earth wide. Under His kingdom, a heavenly government, people will not "learn war anymore.". Instead they will beat their swords into plowshares. Isaiah 2:4
God will being an end to all injustice and suffering. The promises: "God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor ourcry nor pain be any more. The former things (including todays injustices and sufferings) have passed away."
Isaiah 2:4

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, CWO2 Jose L. Montenegro, U.S. Army. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jose. And to Jose it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Jose you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love and patriotism are shown than when a man lays down his life in service to his country. Jose, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jose's family and loved ones.

There are so many words floating in my head to describe how much of an amazing person that Jose is, or to describe how honorably he served this country, how sympatheticly he listened, how dedicated he was to those he loved and protected....too many. I'm at a loss for words as we are at a great loss in his death.
The last thing he said to me, days before the incident, was that he would always have my back. This I know to be true.
