JOY CURETON Obituary

JOY A. CURETON I was born Dec. 20, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was one week before Christmas, so my parents decided to name me Joy, "as in Joy to the World," but I suspect they questioned that decision during my teen years! I have lived an exciting and eventful life. God has given me two wonderful daughters, Arianne and Samantha, and two beautiful granddaughters, Nicole and Amanda. I joined the Navy after High School and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, where I met my hus¬band, Ted. We were both Photographers Mate. When I left the Navy, I went to live in Toledo, Ohio, to be by his family. Three years later, we moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where Ted supervised 13 McDonald's and I supervised care of the family along with the growing menagerie of pets! In 1972, we left Florida for Waycross, Georgia and opened the first of two McDonald's, but always kept the dream of moving to Texas. In 1982, we had that chance. We left Georgia and moved to McAllen, Texas and opened one store in Mission, Texas. With our "Texas Rebel Attitude", our business flourished to nine stores. We sold our McDonald's and bought a Harley-Davidson franchise and developed it into an award-winning dealership. In 1998, we moved to Fredericksburg, Texas. It was the best move in my life! I had a ranch in Willow City, a B and B in town - and a divorce. Oh well, such is life! My daughters and granddaughters have grown to be honorable and car¬ing people - all I could ask for. God has decided that I've had enough time on earth and should make room for someone else. So, He took me home on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015. My love to all of you and thank you for giving me so many great adven¬tures and so many solid friendships! To my daughters and granddaughters, something of me will be with you every day. It could be a smile on someone's face or a particular song you've just heard, and you think, that was one of Oma's favorites and start to sing along with me. Love to you, my friends, and GOD BLESS. LOVE YOU MORE, Oma. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors, hospice and SPCA. Sign the guestbook at www.themonitor.com/obituaries

We remember many great laughs, good times, and a few very crazy times, too. Your mom was a genuinely nice person. She will be missed, but she is right. We will think of her with fond memories as we did at lunch today with friends. Rich and Marta
