LISANDRO MARTINEZ
RIO GRANDE CITY - Lisandro Martinez, with peaceful dignity, born and raised in Rio Grande City, Texas, completed his life journey on May 18, 2010 at Life Care Hospitals of South Texas in McAllen, Texas. He now enjoys the fullness of eternal life in God's presence.
Lisandro, 73 years old, was born in Rio Grande City on July 17, 1936 to Mr. Gabriel Martinez Sr. and Mrs. Martina Olivarez Martinez.
Upon graduating from Rio Grande City High School in 1956, Lisandro joined the United States Army Reserve and returned home to continue working at his lifetime commitment, along with his mother, brothers, and sisters, at the family grocery store, G. Martinez Grocery in Rio Grande City, Texas. Through his life, he was a devoted son, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and a friend to many.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his two daughters and son: Nelda Martinez of Donna, Texas; Veronica Trejo of Rio Grande City, Texas; and Lee Abel Martinez and his wife Anabel S. Martinez of Peñitas, Texas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Victor Raul Guerra, Ariel Omar Guerra, Sara Mae Trejo, Priscilla Ann Trejo, Daniel Eli Trejo, David Lee Trejo, Annalee Martinez, Idany Martinez, and Lee Abel Martinez Jr. "Apa", as we lovingly called him, will be greatly missed. Also surviving are his devoted brothers and sisters-in-law: Mr. Ruben Martinez Sr. and Mrs. Amanda Martinez from Rio Grande City as well as Mr. Arturo Martinez and Mrs. Patricia Martinez from Hobeken, New Jersey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and long time friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lisandro's brother and sister-in-law Ruben Martinez Sr. and Amanda Martinez, along with their children, Ruben Martinez Jr. and Maricela M. Barrera and family for always being there with their unconditional love, time, dedication and care for Mr. Martinez.
Mr. Lisandro Martinez is preceded in death by his pioneer parents Mr. Gabriel Martinez Sr. and Mrs. Martina Olivarez Martinez. As well as brothers, sisters, nephews, and a niece precede Lisandro in death.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lisandro's grandsons Victor R. Guerra and Ariel O. Guerra along with his nephews.
Visitation will be today, Friday, May 21, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume tomorrow, Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 8 a.m. until departure time for a 10 a.m. mass to be taken place at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hernandez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas.
