MARIA CANO Obituary

MARIA LUISA "MARI" CORTEZ CANO SAN JUAN - Maria Luisa "Mari" Cortez Cano, 69, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at her residence in San Juan. Maria was born in Pharr and lived in San Juan most of her life. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and the company of her family and friends. She was a compassionate and thankful person to everyone. Maria spent a lot of time with Josefina "Fina" Munguia Garza, whom she treated like the sister she never had. During the kidney failure of Maria's eldest daughter, Fina was always there. Every morning for the past 40 years, Mari would receive a "good morning" phone call from her sister-in-law Guadalupe Saenz Cortez. She will be deeply missed by her husband, family and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Cortez Cano; parents, Otilia and Anastacio Cortez; a sister, Maria Rosa Munguia Cortez; and a brother, Rene Munguia Cortez. Mari is survived by her husband of 44 years, Arnoldo Cano Sr. of San Juan; children, Arnoldo (Rebecca) Cano Jr., Ana Maria Cano, both of San Juan; siblings, Jesus (Rita) Munguia Cortez of Pharr, Roberto (Guadalupe) Munguia Cortez, Alfredo Munguia Cortez, and Anastacio Munguia Cortez, all of San Juan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Adrian Lerma, Fernando Cortez, Robert Cortez Jr., Rick Soza, Judson Anastacio Cortez, and Steven Cuevas. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, July 20, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Not sure what to say?

August 13, 2015

My Dear cousin Maria Luisa, I know I always called you Mary Lou. You are now in heaven, you are free of pain and now are reunited with your little girl Belinda, your parents, your brother, your sister. One day you will have all your family with you. In the mean time we have to wait our time. The family chain will link one by one until we are all together with our loved one's. Rip my beautiful cousin. You will always be loved and missed, but God's promise is that we will see our loved one's again and I hold on to that promise. I pray for my cousin Arnold and Anita and Arnold Jr. May God comfort them and give them hope for a brighter tomorrow. I love them, and I love you Mary Lou. Rip, my beautiful cousin.
