Maria De Lourdes "Lulu" Vela

1969 - 2023

McAllen - Maria De Lourdes "Lulu" Vela, at the age of 53, passed away on Monday, March 13th, 2023 in the comfort of her home in McAllen, Texas. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing, including her beloved husband, Fabian Vela, and her four kids, Lourdes, Gerardo, Fabian, and Mariella. Lulu was born on April 18th, 1969 to Secundino and Eloisa De Luna. She was a graduate of McAllen Memorial High School, and continued her education at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey. She married her husband, Fabian, on September 26, 1998, and was later diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May of 1999. She was an incredible wife and the proud mother of four beautiful kids; she devoted her life to them. She was a generous, caring, and admirable mother. She constantly made sure her kids had everything they needed at all times, and constantly showed them the most beautiful love and affection. Her children continue to reciprocate that love, and have learned hundreds of valuable lessons from Lulu's love, dedication, and hard work. Lulu made sure to dedicate every minute of every day to her children and her family. She fought an immense battle with cancer, and through it all, she still devoted her life to her loved ones. She always put others before herself, including people beyond her immediate family and friends. She was always willing to help anyone in need, regardless of what they were asking of her. Her generosity and kindness were some of her most remarkable qualities, and that same generosity and kindness has left a mark on so many peoples' lives. We continue to remember and honor her, and those whose lives have been touched by her are invited to accompany her family at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Wednesday, March 15th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. They are free to join for a rosary from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the same location. On Thursday, March 16th, all are welcome to gather in the Our Lady of Sorrows Church for the mass celebrating her life at 2:00 pm. May she rest in peace.
