Mercedes - Martha A. Gorena 1938 - 2025

Mercedes, TX - Martha A. Gorena, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on November 11, 2025 of a long illness. She has long been cared for by her loving family.

Martha was born in Weslaco, TX to Beatrice Rodriguez and Heriberto Alejandro on November 13th, 1938. She overcame many adversities as an infant. She attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic School with her Aunts through middle school. Then she went to California and attended James E. Garfield High School were she participated in many social clubs and was also a cheerleader. She was a hard worker.

Martha eventually was introduced to the love of her life Hector with whom she was married to for sixty happy years and had four loving children: John, David, Martha, and Elaine. While raising her family she also worked at the Headstart Program and West Elementary with her best friend and coworker Mrs. Dora Ybarra. Martha had an impact on many of her students as many of them remember her to this day.

Martha is survived by her loving family, David & Emma Gorena, Martha & John Gorena Holmes, Elaine Gorena & Tim Jenkins. Her Grandchildren Marissa Gorena & Zaira Arroyo, Stephanie Gorena, Holden Holmes, Bianca Gorena, Ricardo & Veronica Aleman and Great Granddaughter, Aliza Salinas. Many nieces and nephews especially Rosann and Lou Huerta and Jaime Gorena, Jr.

Martha is preceded by her loving husband Hector, her son John, her daughter-in-law Arlene, and her sister Olga Guerra.

Visitation will be held at Garcia and Trevino Funeral Home at 439 S. Vermont Ave., Mercedes, on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM.

Martha was remembered as an amazing Mom, Grandmother, Mother-In-Law, Aunt, Cousin, Great Grandmother and Friend to many. She was very generous and had a heart of gold. May she rest in eternal peace. You will be missed.
