MARY HARGIS Obituary

MARY KATHRYN "KATHY" CROWLEY HARGIS McALLEN - Kathy Hargis peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, March 23rd, 2013 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, at the age of eighty-three. She will be remembered for her undeniable trust in the Lord, her steadfastness in faith, and her incredible devotion to her family. Many generations will be led by her examples of undying love, light, and joy. She was born to Elizabeth and Sam Crowley in February of 1930, in Port Lavaca, Texas, and was educated in Pampa, Texas. She graduated from Pampa High School where she was a cheerleader and leader of her school, and met the love of her life Elmo Ronald Hargis. They married in 1949. Kathy was a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and friend to many. Her contagious smile and laughter never failed to light up the space around her, and her exuberant happiness was endless. She loved her church, family, friends, and constantly sang hymns and praises as she cooked and worked around the house. Many remember her at all of her granddaughters' dance recitals, choir programs, piano recitals, birthday parties, school events, or just about anything they were involved in. She was a wonderful cook, and loved antique shopping, bargain shopping, going out for Mexican food, walking, music, reading, and crossword puzzles, among many other activities. Her positive outlook on life, even through a 31-year battle with cancer, was a true testimony to all who knew her. She was a genuine radiance of Christ, and shared his Love and Hope everywhere she went. She emanated His Message endlessly and blissfully. Kathy is survived by her adoring husband of 63 years, Elmo Ronald Hargis, and her sons Steven Lynn Hargis, David Ronald Hargis and daughter-in-law Holly Herndon, all of Liberty, Texas; Dr. Sam Edward Hargis and daughter-in-law Gay Showers of McAllen, Texas; grandchildren Shelly Lynn Hargis, Lindsey Danielle Hargis, Mary Kathryn Showers Hargis, and Brenda Claire Hargis; great-grandchildren Rainey Lynn and Asher Collin (and one on the way!), and several grand-dogs. She is also survived by her sisters Wilma Howard of San Angelo, Texas and Helen King of Everett, Washington, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she adored. Kathy's parents Elizabeth and Sam Crowley preceded her in death, as well as her two brothers Deb and Howard Crowley. Her family and friends cherish the Christian guidance, loving care, and tremendous courage she has shown and taught them throughout the years. Her life, like her resonating love, laughter, and light, is a beautiful blessing. The family would like to thank First Baptist Church McAllen and Calvary Baptist Church McAllen for so many meals, prayers, visits, flowers, and love, as well as Dr. Chris Wood from M.D. Anderson, Drs. Marvin and Hiram Tavarez, Dr. Ben West, Dr. Billie Marek, Dr. Wayne Wilson, and Dr. Richard Moore, for all of your astonishing care and guidance throughout the years. Visitation will be held at Kreidler Funeral Home on Monday, March 25th from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, McAllen, Texas, on Tuesday, March 26th at 2 o'clock p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn cemetery in McAllen, Texas. Donations in Kathy's memory can be made to the First Baptist Church McAllen Youth Ministry (1200 Beech, McAllen, Texas 78501), to Covenant Christian Academy (4201 N. Ware Road, McAllen, Texas 78504), and to the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic (101 W. Expressway 83, McAllen, Texas 78503), or to the charity of your choice. When we first moved to Texas in 2004, Ms. Kathy was one of the first people we met at First Baptist Church, McAllen. She was always so pleasant and welcoming and made us feel glad to be here. It was always a joy to see her, and we will remember her with great fondness. We extend our condolences to all loved ones. Sincerely, The Knight Family, Edinburg, TX
