MODESTA CANALES EDINBURG - Modesta Canales, 91, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. Born in Escobares, TX, Mrs. Canales had lived in Edinburg most of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Canales; two sisters, Victoria Canales Fidencia Pena; and a brother, Miguel Canales. Mrs. Canales is survived by nine children, Bruno Canales of Edinburg, Aurora (Ruben) Rodriguez of Grandview, Washington, Irma (Hilario) Luevano, Ernestina Canales, both of Edinburg, Nicolas Canales, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Norma (Florentino) Mendoza, Irene Canales, Dora (+Miguel) De Leon, all of Edinburg, Noe (Oneida) Canales of San Juan; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Leonor Flores and Hilda Zarate. A rosary was held Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service will take at 1 p.m. today, March 23, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg.
