Ramona Arriola Obituary
EDINBURG - Ramona Cantu Arriola, 87, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at Briarcliff Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in McAllen.
She was born on December 30, 1919 to Zenon and Virginia Cantu in Mercedes, and had lived in Edinburg all of her life. She was a loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She was a role model for all of her children. Ramona attended Pan American University and she was employed with Hidalgo County as a supervisor for the Juvenile detention Center when she retired in 1993.
"Mona" as she was affectionately known by her children and friends, loved to read, dance and learn. When it came to her children, she encouraged all of them to become successful but to always put God first. Her children were her pride and joy and she let them know it. She was a strong believer in God's word and passed along her beliefs in an encouraging, uplifting way. Mona's warm, loving and radiant smile will be forever missed but never forgotten. Even in her last days she was an inspiration to all those around her. Her children are proud to have called her mom.
She was preceded in death by two sons, David Arriola Jr. and Eduardo (Eddie) Arriola; five sisters, Maria, Sophia, Julia, Amelia and Tomasita; and three brothers, Guadalupe, Fidel and Gilberto.
She is survived by her eight children, Elma (Raul) Ayala, Dr. Roland (Donna) Arriola, Melda (Daniel) Ramirez, Homero(Mary Ann) Arriola MD, Jesse (Alma) Arriola, Rosie (Ray +) Leist, Ricardo(Rosie) Arriola and George (Debra) Arriola; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jose Cantu and Manuel Cantu; and a sister, Herlinda Torres.
The family would life to express their thanks to Dr. Curtis Maynard and the nursing staff and CNA's at Briarcliff Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, today, November 15, 2007, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.

Arriola Family (Rosie), My deepest sympathy goes out to your family. Your mom was my moms roommate at Briarcliff. I know what you all are going through. After all, we just lost our mother (Consuelo Sanchez) on Oct. 31, 2007. Your mother will live on in your hearts and the fond memories shared together. I know you will continue to celebrate her life. It is a blessing to know that our mother's have been reunited in heaven. May God Bless you all.

With these words, the Department of Special Education of the Mission CISD sincerely extend our condolences to the Arriola family. You were very blessed to have such a wonderful and caring mother. May you take comfort in knowing that she has joined the angels in heaven to watch over you and all those you love.
