Robert J. Marone

Aberdeen, SD - Memorial services for Robert J. Marone, Sr., 88, Aberdeen, will be 1:00 pm, Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. with Pastor Kevin Bergeson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Robert died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Robert J. Marone was born November 10, 1927 on a farm in Sanborn County, near Alpena, SD, to Wallace and Elizabeth "Eva" (Seeman) Marone. He attended Weeks School and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1944. In November 1947, Robert married Mary Jane Bies. To this union six children were born. Robert enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean Conflict, from 1948 - 1952, before being honorably discharged. Robert was the owner and operator of Bob's Transfer and in Pierre, SD and was also an agent for Allied Van Lines. In 1962 he was nominated for "Outstanding Business Man of the Year". In December of 1965, Robert married Margaret Ann White in Ankeny, IA. Robert was a member of the Masonic Bodies, Elks Club, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and was a Shriner. Grateful for having shared Robert's life are his wife of 50 years, Margaret Marone: four daughters and two sons: Lynne (Ken) Steele, Sioux Falls, SD, Paulette Stotz, Pierre, SD, Roberta "Bertie" (Daryl) Kudrna, Dickinson, ND, Rachelle "Shelley" (Roger) Locken, Bath, SD, Robert "Bing" Marone, Jr., Panama City, FL, Brady (Sue) Marone, Sioux Falls, SD; step-children: Jim (Debbie) White, Kenai City, AK, Kathy (Jim) Pharr, Casper, WY; twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his first wife, Mary Marone, parents, Wallace and Eva Marone and grandparents Harry and Alta Marone and Charles and Bessie Seeman. www.spitzerfuneralhome.com
