Ruben Reyna Obituary

Rio Grande City - Ruben Reyna, 55, of Rio Grande City, TX passed into the loving arms of our Lord on February 23, 2018. He was born on January 2, 1963, to Maria Quintino and Ambrosio Reyna - the first baby born in Rio Grande City that year.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Reyna, his three daughters Ariana Karén, Victoria Ivana, and Gabriella Noelle Reyna, and his sons-in-law Mario Acosta Jr. and Colin Varville, as well as his six siblings. Ruben was predeceased by his loving mother, Maria Quintino and his mother-in-law, Imelda "Jimmie" Garza.

Ruben was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure of meeting him, and he will be missed and remembered fondly as a selfless and patient man with a quiet strength that always spoke louder than words. Even the toughest times did not rob him of who he was. His gentle and loving character drew many people to him.

Ruben graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1981. He was a proud member of the Mighty Marching Rattler Band and served as the band's drum major in the '80 - '81 school year.

After attending St. Edward's University, Ruben earned his Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Texas-Pan American, and his career led him to become a registered nurse. Ruben treated his patients with kindness and compassion in the Rio Grande City Hospital emergency room, and later as a home health and hospice nurse. Ruben gave of himself without reserve, whether it was in a professional capacity, or on a personal level with family and friends.

Ruben's life was an example of unconditional love and abundant smiles to all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving son and brother. To his nieces and nephews, he was an example of compassion and strength. He joined Melissa Garza Reyna in holy matrimony on May 30, 1987, at Immaculate Conception Church. Throughout their thirty years together, they loved, laughed, and together raised three daughters.

Most importantly, Ruben was a faithful servant of God. His family is comforted by the knowledge that he was welcomed home by his loving Savior with open arms. He was an angel long before he entered God's kingdom in heaven.

Visitation will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on Monday, February 26, 2018, beginning at noon. A rosary will be held on the same day at 7 p.m. Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Interment will follow at the family plot at the Rio Grande City Cemetery.
