Agnes Patterson Smith Obituary

Agnes "Ann" Patterson Smith, age 90 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2022, at Crestwood Village Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant. Ann was born May 24, 1932, in Port Huron, Michigan. She was the daughter of Frederick W. Patterson Sr. and Hazel B. (Babcock) Patterson. Ann graduated as the salutatorian of Dryden High School in 1950. She continued her education at the University of Michigan before finishing her bachelor's degree at Eastern Michigan University. While attending EMU, she met Lawrence E. Smith and they were married July 11, 1953. Ann was a lifelong educator. Upon her graduation she began her teaching career in the Royal Oak Public Schools. She then taught in Brighton, Michigan before finally moving to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1968. She taught in the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools for 23 years, primarily at Mary McGuire Elementary School. She retired in 1991. After retirement Ann stayed very busy as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church. She did a lot of traveling with her husband Larry and spent her winters with her wonderful family of friends in Florida. She was able to travel to her winter home through spring 2019. Ann always put family first. She is survived by her children; John L. (Marrianne) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, David W. (Linda Morton) of Bremerton, Washington, and Margaret "Meg" (Gordon) McKillop of Kingwood, Texas; her brother Frederick W. (Judy Bauman) Patterson Jr.; grandchildren; Jessica (William Joseph) Laib of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patterson P. Smith of Peoria, Arizona, Cathryn (fiancée: Michael McCormick) McKillop of Houston, Texas, Kristina McKillop of Kingwood, Texas, and Amy (Barrett) Hartman of Spanaway, Washington. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren and many loving cousins and very special nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 57 years. The Smith family would like to thank the staff of Crestwood Village Assisted Living for creating a loving home for Ann during her last three years. We would also like to thank McLaren Hospice for their gentle care and professionalism. As was Ann's wish, cremation will take place and a celebration of her life will be planned for mid-2023. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church. You may view Ann's obituary online and send a condolence to the family at: www.clarkfuneralchapel.com
