Andrew Relyea Wheeler
1981 - 2015
WHEELER, ANDREW RELYEA; age 34; passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Andy is the son of Robert and Nancy Wheeler and was born September 4, 1981 in Alma, Michigan. He lived in Mt. Pleasant for most of his life. Andy is survived by his parents; his sister, Christianne (Matthew) Marshall of Farmington Hills, Michigan; his brother, Adam Wheeler of Los Angeles, California; nephews, Riley, Jonah and Elijah Marshall; along with a loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Andy made friends wherever he went and was known for being friendly and outgoing. He was academically successful and loved sports. He was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Central Michigan University with a Bachelors in Business Entrepreneurship and Spanish. During college, he served for 2 years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California among Spanish speaking people. He loved the people there and the Spanish language. After college, he worked for several firms in Mt. Pleasant doing corporate sales and marketing. Among other things, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club. The most important things to Andy were the people in his life: his friends and family. Friends said about him: “Andy is the guy who cared endlessly, feared nothing, loved unconditionally, and always had the best hair….Andy had lots of smiles and caring words about others, never a mean bone in his body….he had great manicured hair and a smile that could change the world…..Andy was there to offer words of encouragement when needed…he touched so many lives…he will be missed to the moon and back.” All are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1404 S. Crawford Road. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Barden Funeral Home. Because Andy had a deep capacity for kindness and helpfulness, memorials may be made to the Andy Wheeler Community Needs Fund at the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be left at

My deepest sympathies to you. I had the pleasure of knowing Andy when he was our radio rep. I thoroughly enjoyed our visits. He was attentive and always did what he promised he would do. I still can't believe my eyes reading this news. Praying for you all.

Our hearts go out to your family. We were very saddened to hear of this tragic news. Our memories of Andy will be fond ones, because that is all we knew him to be...a fond person to be around. We will remember the fun times playing basketball together at church on Saturday. I will also never forget the look of amazement on his face when we personally delivered a care package of cookies and notes from his mom in Mount Pleasant Michigan to him in Laguna Hills California as he was serving the Lord as a full-time missionary. He was very thankful for the delivery. I was thankful for his hospitality and genuine care and concern for others. He will be missed...that's for sure. We love you Andy.

I was in Andy's high school graduating class. I wasn't close friends with Andy, but I felt very saddened to hear of his passing, so I decided to attend his memorial service.

I didn't get to share my memories there because I had to get to work. Here are the some of memories I had of Andy. . .

Andy and I were in several classes together in 7th grade and not really thereafter, but the short interactions I did have with him that year, I remember the kindness he displayed.

In our classes, he was nice and talked to me even though we didn't identify with the same group of ppl at school, which was pretty rare for someone coming from the in crowd.

Once he even stood up for me in social studies class against the teacher trying to give me detention for something I didn't do. Our entire group still got detention, but for him to defend me when he barely knew me and he knew I didn't do it, speaks volumes for his character and the type of person he was.

Another time I remember we were supposed to be reading in English class and Andy was asking me about a intricate small braid in my hair. He "thought it was cool." We started whisper chatting and then we got in trouble by the teacher for talking - lol!

After 7th grade we had little to no interactions from being in different crowds and different classes, but the Andy I remember displayed an uncommon amount of kindness toward others, he was funny, and charismatic. Andy was a really good person.

I'm glad to have known Andy. The world was a better place because of him.

I am sorry for all his family and friends who were much closer to him than I was and feel bad they will be missing such a wonderful person. May God be a source of comfort to you during your time of grieving

I am very saddened and grieved-stricken over the passing of Andy. I remember Andy very well as one of my fourth grade students. He took pride in his school work and was an exceptional student. I envisioned a productive future for him. Bob and Nancy were exceptional parents--giving support to Andy as well as to me.

Now the heavens can be home
For my spirit has been freed
And my soul it rests in You
Your life is found in me
And this death it ends in life
With this faith in love fulfilled
And my eyes can finally see, Your face

Bob and Nancy,
Bill and I grieve with you and for you. There are no words that can help you go through this pain and sorrow. Please know that you are loved and encompassed by God's grace and mercy. He draws near to the broken-hearted. You are also loved and surrounded by your friends and family. You are not alone. We weep with those who weep. Kathy and Bill

Kind. Caring. Encouraging. Helpful. All appropriate words to describe Andy. But I think the word that best describes him, and I'm sure many would agree, is friend. It was a great pleasure working with Andy at the radio station! Tremendous enthusiasm for new ideas and always supportive when helping to see them through. Thank you Bob and Nancy for sharing his beautiful spirit with us. May God wrap His arms around you all as you celebrate the lovely soul of your son during this difficult time.

Dear Bob and Nancy,
I am so sorry to hear about Andy. When you lose someone you love that much, no one else can really understand the pain that you are feeling. My prayers are with you and know that the Lord will carry you through this unbelievable sorrow. I was touched by the obituary because I too think of Andy with his endearing smile that would light up his entire face and those around him.
