Helen Simon

1934 - 2022

Our beloved mother, Helen Simon, passed away October 10, 2022 with her children by her side. She was born to Archie and Mary (Greyzck ) Snider on September 20, 1934. She married Frank Simon on October 12, 1957, and together they had eleven children. She is survived by her children, Mike (Beth), Mark (Jo), Ronald (Nila), Donald, Bradley (Julie), Mary (Brian) Straus, Jodi (Virgil) Robbins, Benjamin (Gwen), and Deanna Flowers; son-in-Law, Don Wernette; sisters-in-law, Mary (Paul) Golupski, Nancy Snider and Orlie Simon; 37 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; daughter, Marsha Wernette; infant son, Christopher; infant granddaughter, Alisha; grandson, Greg Simon; siblings, Anna, Beatrice, Bertha, John, Ronald, Archie, Jim and Robert. Helen was the owner and operator of Helen’s Restaurant in Remus and was involved in her community until her retirement in 2013. She participated in the Remus Area Business Association and contributed time and funds to many community projects and celebrations; serving as Grand Marshall for the Remus Heritage Days celebration one year. In her tenure as chief cook and owner of Helen’s Restaurant “Where Good Friends Meet to Eat� she made innumerable friends. The “family table� at Helen’s was the place that many events were discussed, analyzed and commented on; and her opinion mattered. You were never a stranger at Helen’s more than once, as she had an incredible memory for people and faces. She enjoyed practical jokes and was a charter member of the squad; a group of ladies who enjoyed playing pranks on friends and unsuspecting community members. A Memorial Mass will be held in Helen’s honor Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00 am, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will take place Friday evening at the church from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm, and again on Saturday morning one hour prior to the Mass. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Michael Catholic Church for a Mass to be said in memory of her, or to the family to be used according to their wishes, in lieu of flowers.
