Irene Garcia, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at her home. Irene was born January 5, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of the late Emilio V. and Vicenta R. (Rodriguez) Lopez. She married Roland Garcia August 24, 1973, in Lubbock, TX. She was employed by the Soaring Eagle Casino as a security guard, and she also was a home health caregiver. Irene enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and vegetable gardening. More than anything, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irene is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, Rolando; two children, Rolan (Tracie) Garcia of Coleman and Angie (Mark) Phinney of Shepherd; five grandchildren, Sixta (Jarred) Carpenter and Braeden Garcia, and Kaitlyn (Timothy) Davis, Gage (Jessi) Phinney, and Lukas Phinney; six great grandchildren, Oziah, Kiya, Waylon, Farron, Arlyn, and Jaxon; siblings, Tony (Kathy) Lopez, Martina Garcia, Jesse Rodriguez (Joanne Hetherington), Diane (Rick) Showano, Edward Lopez, Ricardo Lopez, and Mike Lopez (Sherry Hammond) ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Vicenta Lopez; and three siblings, Christina Lopez, Rudy Lopez, and Elizabeth Lopez. Irene’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
