Jerry Salisbury Obituary
Jerry LeeSalisbury, Columbia. This obituary was written by Jerry in 2005. His children have updated and edited it slightly to make it suitable for publication. Those of you who knew him well will understand.
Jerry Lee Salisbury died Monday, September 24, 2012. He was born July 13, 1938 in Shepherd, Michigan, the son of the late Maynard Wright and Bernita Ilene McVey Salisbury. He is survived by his children, Tracy Lee Salisbury (Ron Matthias) of Moraga, CA, Kenton J. (Karen) Salisbury of Columbia, Diedre S. Murphy of Blythewood, and Mason (Lori) Salisbury of Anderson; grandchildren, Bryant (Gina) Murphy, Hollis Murphy (Devon Mitchell), Mary Braden Murphy, Stephen (Jennine) Matthias, Peter Matthias, Alison Salisbury, Harrison Salisbury, Emma Salisbury and Emily Salisbury; brother, Maynard Burch Salisbury; two beloved ex-wives, Zora Salisbury and Betty Robinson; some lovely ex-girlfriends and some friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Keith Salisbury.
He would like to be remembered as a curmudgeon, with a hint of charity. Mr. Salisbury graduated from Central Michigan University and received a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Texas at Austin (hook'em horns) in 1971. He taught college psychology for three years in California before joining the S.C Department of Corrections in 1972. He retired from the S.C. State Department of Education in 1999.
Thanks to all members of my family and to most of my friends. You all have given me so much more than I gave you. Sorry-and thanks!

In honor of his request to "party 'till you can't anymore," his family will host a Memorial Gathering on Saturday September 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at 1301 Gervais Street, Columbia, 1st Floor IT-oLogy Lobby.

I had the opportunity to work with Jerry at the SDE. He was a delightfully comical man. He had wonderful stories to tell and was great to just have conversation with. The "party" comment is him!!! He will be missed by all who knew him.

Jerry was a brilliant and wonderful man who was full of life and laughter. He will be truly missed. I extend my sympathies to the Salisbury family and to all those who love and miss him. I will "party til I can't anymore" in true Jerry spirit. RIP.
