Mary A. Smalley

Mary A. Smalley; age 79 of Shepherd, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at the Leffingwell House in Grand Rapids. Mary was born April 4, 1944 the daughter of Dale and Beryl (Baird) Sandel. She enjoyed going to the Casino, playing bingo, yatzee, and cards with her friends. Mary was a State Farm Insurance agent for over 15 years. She married Gary Smalley November 7, 1975. They were members of the Model A club "Middle A Branch." Mary is survived by 2 children Margaret (Kelly McDevitt) Pratt of Mt. Pleasant and Mark (Denise) Denman of Breckenridge; her sister Alice Szarafinski of Cold Water Lake; 9 grandchildren Ron, Mark Jr., Josh, Chris, Adam, Tom, Kate, Kellie, and Ryan; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded by her husband Gary; both her parents; mother and father-in-law Julia and Glenn Smalley; and siblings Carl Sandel, Ruth Parks, Wayne Sandel, Arlene Brewer, and Lois Rowe. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life at a later date. Mary and Gary will be interred at Salt River Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
