How I miss real conversations with my brother, instead of the imagined ones I have! Brother Dave and I miss you!

I think of you, brother, nearly every day and truly miss our talks; you were always a source of calm and deliberate thought. You were gone from us way too soon.
Marlene and family, we hope that you are all well and at happy, and loving each other's presence. Peace....

I think of Skip (Dick) often, of course, but remember frequently the bedroom we shared in Minneapolis, where each night we called to each other in the dark, "Johnny?" and proceeded to create some of the most inventive conversations between two kids ever imagined. What an incredible way to ease into sleep, and childhood.

I have not forgotten you for a moment, Skip. Often in the surge of reacting to some of the societal nonsense of recent years, I pause to reflect about what you might have thought about things. You're still a valuable resource and, more importantly, still my older brother. Katie and I miss your thoughtful demeanor.

How I would treasure the chance to talk with my older brother about the changes this world and this country have seen since his passing. Amidst a culture of volume and bombast, Skip would offer a more thoughtful and measured view of the changing world. I could use that right now. How great it would be to have him at Madeline Island for remembering!

There have not been many days during the past year wherein I have not thought about my brother. When he passed away I lamented the loss of being able to reminisce with him about "the old days." But I have found that I still do that with him; I just have to remember his laughter at the episodes we recounted about growing up together. And my younger brother, Dave, and I maintain the tradition in Skip's absence. It's just not quite as much fun....

I always took comfort in his quiet and thoughtful friendship. I selfishly wish that her were still here, but God has a better plan for him.
