Roscoe Keigley Obituary

Roscoe W.
Keigley
July 17, 1918 - Jan 7, 2012

Roscoe William Keigley, dear husband, father, and grandfather, 93, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 7th, 2012 at Toledo Hospital.
Roscoe was born on July 17th, 1918 in Watervliet Township, Michigan to the late William and Helen (Yates) Keigley, and grew up on the family farm.
Roscoe was a World War II veteran (Corps of Engineers). He was given a medical discharge in 1943 and was not expected to live long. As always, he clearly exceeded expectations.
On May 18th, 1947, Roscoe married Alice Jean (Flory) and settled in Hastings, Michigan where he worked a few years at an auto dealership. They then moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where he worked in the accounting department of the State Home and Training School for the mentally retarded from 1950 until his retirement in 1981.
Roscoe and Alice have lived in Toledo, Ohio for a total of 17 years, and at Swan Creek Retirement Village for the past 6 years.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and visiting with friends. He enjoyed gardening, and was a Past Master of the Fraternal Order of Freemasons.
Roscoe will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Alice Jean; by his children, Randall (Vickie), of Green Bay, WI, and Blaine (Debbie), of Toledo; his grandchildren, Jessica, Ross and Ian, of Toledo and Benjamin, of Green Bay; as well as other relatives and friends.
A special thank you to Tracy Parsons and all of the other dedicated caregivers and staff from Christian Home Care of Toledo, and also to the staff of Swan Creek Retirement Village of Toledo.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 3:00-7:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valley View Drive, Toledo. Visitation one hour prior to service at church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or the Swan Creek Life Care Fund.

Roscoe Keigley was my brother-in-law's (Blaine) father. I'll always remember "Rocky" as a happy, quick- to-smile, friendly kind of man. Many, many decades ago, I remember how kind and unintimidating he was to young, 15 year old me when I first met him. I remember instantly liking him because he showed an interest in helping me learn to drive when I was trying to rack up hours on my learner's permit. The world will always need more kind people like him.

Alice and Family: Our sincerest condolences on Rockey's passing. It has been many years since we all worked at the State Home in Mt. Pleasant and Randy, Blaine, Devon & Mitch were school friends. We have fond memories of that time. Barbara & David Barnes & Family

I was saddened to hear of Mr Keigley's passing. It has been many years since our families were friends in Mt Pleasant and hung out together. I can still hear his laugh.

Dear Alice;

We are very sorry to hear of your loss. I didn't realize Rocky was that much older than my Mom. He always looked so young to me. I remember many garage sales at your home in Mt Pleasant. I think you bought as many books as you sold. I remember Rocky as well he always had a great since of humor. We are very sorry for your loss.

With Love,

Scott and Caroline Askegard
