Flannery-Lapham, Ruth M. (Fitzgerald) Ruth Flannery-Lapham, 90, of Midland and formerly of Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Stratford Pines Hospice House in Midland with family by her side. She had been living at Colonial Villa in Midland the past five years. A Funeral Mass for Ruth will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes as celebrant. Burial will in Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Mt. Pleasant VFW Borley-Hanel Post 3033. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday 3-7 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Ruth was born February 27, 1927, in Shepherd, MI, daughter of the late Floyd and Anna (Redel) Fitzgerald. After graduating from Shepherd High School she worked as an assembly line worker at Ferro Manufacturing in Mt. Pleasant. There she met her future husband, Robert R. Flannery. The couple wed on January 28, 1950, at Sacred Heart Church. She also worked for Central Michigan University in the food commons for 21 years, retiring in 1983. After Robert's death in 2002, Ruth married William Lapham on May 14, 2004. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and former member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Beal City. She was on the Council of Catholic Women at both parishes. Some of her favorite pastimes were quilting and gardening, especially raspberries. She had been a member of the Weidman quilters group. Ruth is survived by her son, Patrick (Joan) Flannery of Midland; four grandchildren, Jason Flannery, Jill (Ed) Haney, Lisa Flannery, and Matt Flannery; five great grandchildren, Darren, Justin, Caleb, Marissa, and Paige; brother, John (Yvonne) Fitzgerald of Shepherd; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Flannery and William Lapham; son, William F. Flannery; and brother, Ernest Fitzgerald.
