Steven M. Johnson

Steven M. Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away Thursday September 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac at the age of 78. Steve was born in Battle Creek, MI the 2nd of 8 children to Maurice and Virgina Johnson. After graduating high school Steve served in the Air Force as a radar operator stationed near his home in Battle Creek. This afforded him the opportunity to attend Western Michigan University and graduate with a degree in teaching. He went on to teach high school then middle school in Mt. Pleasant for 31 years from 1973 to 2004 teaching Manufacturing (Shop) and History. Former students may remember constructing wooden, Old West style, scale model buildings. Steve was also known for his clay buildings and figures and woodworking skills. Throughout his life, Steve had an interest in motorcycles especially his Harley Davidson Low Rider. He enjoyed the company of friends and caregivers in his later years as Alzheimer's took its toll. Steve was very proud of his three daughters Jennifer Hewitt of Kalamazoo, Amy Smith of Rochester Hills and Jo Venezia of Los Gatos, California. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren Baylee Singson, Delaney Hewitt, Hannah Hewitt, Mackenzie Hewitt, Griffin Smith, Ava Smith, Lourdes Venezia and Stella Venezia.
