Betty M. Jensen Espenan, age 93, of Abita Springs, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. She was born in Arlington, South Dakota, on December 14, 1921. She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin J. Espenan, Jr., her daughter Bonnie J. Nelson (Paul), mother Emma Gebhardt Jensen, father Harold Jensen and her brother Kirk Jensen. She is survived by her two twin daughters Betty J. Henson (Gerald), Mary J. Velino (Paul), son Edwin J. Espenan III and her sister Dorothy Thompson. Betty is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kimberly Carlson, Shawn Velino, Sheri Marchese, Carley Nelson and Jacob Nelson and 7 great grandchildren. Betty left Arlington, South Dakota, in 1943 to serve in the Women's Army Corps (WAC), where she served her country during World War II and earned the rank of Sergeant. Betty was a devoted mother, who loved to sew, play cards, paint and tend to her gardening. Betty worked many years in the banking industry where, she eventually became Vice President of Loan Servicing at Whitney Bank. She worked hard every day and came home to take care of her family. In her later years, she and her husband spent time in their motor home traveling where they loved to go camping and make new friends along the way. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will sadly be missed by her loving family and all of those who knew and cherished her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., Metairie, LA, on Thursday, November 12, 2015, beginning at 11:00 AM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home's chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society
