Clement Story Obituary

A Memorial Service will be celebrated Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 10:30 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home, 1010 Pandora Street, Lafayette, 70506, 337-981-7098, for Clement Story, III "Clem", 76, who passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Carpenter House in Lafayette. Inurnment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.Deacon Jim Kincel of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette will officiate. Clem was born and raised in New Orleans. He was a longtime member of the Founders of the City of New Orleans. Clem spent several years as a child, living in the French Quarter above the family restaurant, Tujaque's, a famous landmark in New Orleans. After serving in the United States Navy, he received an honorable discharge. Clem then went on to graduate from Southeastern Louisiana University and Loyola Law School. He was a Louisiana Bar Association member for 50 years. Clem was also a member of the Florida Bar Association. He lived for a few years in the city of Dunedin, Florida. His law work accomplishments included, ADA for Jim Garrison in New Orleans and the Assistant Attorney General to Attorney General Charles Foti Jr. from 2004 to 2008. Clem was still practicing law in Lafayette shortly before his death. Mr. Story leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Merrilyn C. Story, also known to all as "Marty" of Lafayette; his oldest daughter, Lara Story Penty and her husband, John of Valrico, FL; his youngest daughter, Heather Story Vann and her husband, Patrick of Palm Harbor, FL; four granddaughters, Darian LeBlanc, Madison Penty, Olivia Penty and Lilian Vann; his cousin, Suzanne Marie Kuhn of New Orleans, LA and his very special two angels, Judi Fontenot and Mary Regan. Clem cherished his friends deeply and often shared his memories of them. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois deLatour; his father, Clement Story Jr.; his aunt, Shirley deLatour Cheer and his great grandfather, Henry Clement Story, who was a West Point graduate and a Civil War veteran. Mr. Story is also a descendant of Sydney Story, the founder of Storyville in the French Quarter. The family wishes to thank The Carpenter House of Lafayette for the compassionate care given to Clement and his family.
