I am going to miss the sarcastic phone calls if the weeks became too long, James Black would always reintroduce himself as if I didn't know who he was or I have forgotten him. I also will miss, if he told me I was wrong about something(life) he would know I was upset and tell me to call him back once I got over it and he expected to be called back promptly lol......(the best sense of humor) My best memory of my father, was in that ugly green Dodge station wagon, on Williams Blvd, at the timesavers, eating Reese's butter cups, as a little girl. Although I am not a biological daughter, he always love me like I was. The best lessons in life it was all his teaching, work ethic, love of dogs, and drive a car without power steering. I don't know how my life would have turned out without James Robert Black III.

22 A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 17:22 NIV We will miss your smile, laughter, cooking, and hospitality. You were truly a wild and crazy big brother that brought much joy to our lives. I will miss my annual birthday card and telephone conversations. You had wisdom beyond your years. Your knowledge of cars, carpentry, cement, motorcycles and life was a blessing to all who you shared with. Absent from our presence but never forgotten. Your sister, Reverend Dr. Brigitte A. Black

Deepest sympathy to you and the family for the loss of your loved one James Cheesy Black. James and I grew up together on Burr Street in Gary, Indiana. James was my neighbor, but was also my big brother. As brothers and sisters usually do, we laughed, played, fought, and defended one another. I have sooo many great memories of us growing up together and remaining close friends until the end. Burr Street just would not have been the same without Cheesy being in our lives. I love this guy and will miss him dearly. Lynette and the entire family, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers today and always. James Cheesy Black is a legend and all that met him and knew him are truly blessed. Rest in Paradise James, until we meet again.

To my dear friend forever, James Robert Black III. (aka Cheezy, aka Big Black, aka Black, aka JR, aka Reverend Black, aka Bobby!) We were friends and teammates at West Side High School in Gary, Indiana to being roommates and teammates at South Carolina State College and later in semi pro in West Virginia. James later went all the way to the NFL, a great accomplishment. James is the best friend a person can have. He would share with me and include me in everything he did. James had many skills besides football. He was an expert car mechanic. And an expert swimmer. And he was a photographer. And a DJ. He loved motorcycles. And was a carpenter. And he operated tractors and other machinery. And he could charm anyone. Women would gravitate to him constantly. He was a fun loving guy and we cracked jokes all the time. James was a great, brilliant man. God blessed this world by letting James be among us. James was like a brother to me and I will always love him as a brother and cherish the wonderful memories. RIP James.

My heart is saddened upon hearing James ( at South Carolina State College in the mid 1970's we called "Cheesy" ) passing. He will always be a brother, friend and fellow Bulldog. My prayer is for this very small token, be accepted as consolation and sympathy for your sorrow and lost, and may the pain you are going through during this difficult season, be comforted by the promises in God through Christ Jesus who cares deeply for each of us.
