Joseph Guzman Sr.

Joseph Guzman, Sr. passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the age of 99. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was a member of the United States Army and received an honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal in 1945. He was also a dedicated member of St David Catholic Church for over 65 years and St. Agnes Catholic Church of Jefferson after Hurricane Katrina. He was also a member of The Knights of Peter Claver, Fr. John Daly, Council 125 for over 50 years and a founding member of St. David's Block Rosary Group. He was most recently honored as Patriarch of The Guzman Family Reunion. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Henrietta Hana Guzman and parents, Arthur and Carmelite Battaglia Guzman; two sisters, Gertrude Guzman Wilson, Clara Guzman (Albert) Rock; two brothers, Milton C. (Mary) Guzman, Sr., Arthur Guzman, Jr.; devoted nephews, Anthony Scott and Joseph Quest. Survivors include loving daughters, Joann G. (Raphael) Lewis, Shirley Wilson and son, Joseph Guzman, Jr.; three grandchildren, Dana (Patricia) Wilson, Rudy Wilson and Jacquelyn Wilson; six great-grandchildren, Danasha, Aa'Najah, Aajanea, Sirhaun, Jhaunea and R'Mani; devoted nephew, Milton C. Guzman, Jr. Relatives and friends of the family; Priest and Parishoners of St. David and St. Agnes(Jefferson Parish) Catholic Churches;Staff and Employees of First American Bank; Officers and Members of The Knights of Peter Claver, Fr. John Daly Council 125 and St. David's Block Rosary Group are invited to attend the service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. David Catholic Church, 5617 St. Claude Avenue, on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11 AM, Rev.Oswald Pierre Jules, Jr., Celebrant.
