Thomas Beres Obituary

Thomas Joseph Beres

Thomas Joseph Beres, 71, of Norwalk Township, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021. The funeral service will be held on Friday April 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Auxter Funeral Home 1105 Castalia Street, Bellevue, OH 44811. The family will hold a visiting hour at 10 a.m. at Auxter before the service. The family will hold a private interment at York Free Chapel Cemetery at a later date.

Tom was born on April 20, 1949, in Elryia, OH, to the late John and Dorothy Beres. He graduated from Elyria High School in 1967 where he played football, wrestled and a cappella choir. Tom had an aptitude for practical mechanics, taking adult mechanic night classes even during high school. He worked as an auto mechanic as well as a long time Parts Manager at Davidson Volkswagen in Lorain, Ohio. He eventually transitioned to working as a top-tier bicycle mechanic, where he met and established many friendships in the Northern Ohio bike-riding community. Even into retirement Tom was often called and consulted on various bicycle repairs for riders and friends. Tom loved to ride his bicycle, taking on challenges like riding over 100 miles in one day, or at his peak, riding over 5000 miles a year. He also pursued various other activities in his younger days like competitive trials-bike riding, and skeet and trap shooting. His wit and humor were well known; family and friends remembered events by one of his unique and famous "Tom Beres Jokes," slowly and deliberately unfurled, worked to maximum effect until ending in the whole room, or a select corner, laughing hysterically.

Tom was a loyal friend to many over the years, going to great lengths to make them feel the touch and warmth of his overwhelming Hungarian spiritedness. Most importantly, Tom was a loving husband and devoted father and put his family first.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Glenda Heter Beres; son, T. Alex (Jamie); sister, Donna (Hans) Kessler; sisters-in-law Carlene Beres, Cheryl Robertson; niece Kirsten (Ryan) Walker; and nephews, John Daniel (Shelley) Beres, and Joshua Pugh. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Dorothy Beres; in in-laws, Glen and Vivian Heter, and his brother, John Beres. He will be forever missed and cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Auxter Funeral Home immediately proceeding the funeral service.
