Frances Cardin Avery, 84, of Elizabethtown, wife of James Russell Avery, departed this life for a new life on Dec. 12, 2014.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and was active in Gilead Baptist Church. She was a daughter of Shelby Cardin and Ruth Tabb, born in Sonora on Jan. 26, 1930.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Allen; her parents; and two brothers, James Cardin and Harvey 'Monk' Cardin.
Frances is survived by her husband, Russell Avery; sister, Mary Elizabeth (Robert) Duggins; a son, Craig (Dori) Avery of Nicholasville; a daughter, Jane (Warren) Clifford of Elizabethtown; and five grandchildren, Shelby (Mandy) Avery of Lexington, Jill Avery (Shawn) Young, Luke (Bailey) Avery, all of Nicholasville, and Leslie Clifford (Dean) Smith and Jason Clifford, all of Elizabethtown; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
The family deeply appreciates the many caregivers who aided Frances through her struggles with Alzheimer's. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Hadden officiating. Burial follows in Sonora Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. today and continues after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
