Gertrude Mayhew Obituary

Gertrude Hall Mayhew, 82, of Vine Grove, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, March 10, 2014, at her residence.

She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church and was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Maple Mount. She served several years as the presi-dent of the Mount Saint Joseph Alumni Association and received the ""Maple Leaf Award"" for service in 2009. Gertie retired after 30 years with Fort Knox civil service as an employee in the area of civilian and military finance.

After retirement she fulfilled her love of travel by visiting Italy, Ireland, the Holy Land and numerous mission trips. She loved family ancestry and sharing Kentucky history with her grandchildren. Whether it be John Wayne movies or old movie musicals, she instilled her passion for movies with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher Columbus Hall and Edith Hoffman Hall; three brothers, Anthony Hall, Henry Hall and Rudolph (Buster) Hall.

She is survived by a son, Chris (Patti) Mayhew of Vine Grove; a daughter, Renee (Pat) Shoemaker of Henderson; one brother, Tommy (Anita) Hall of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Ann (Sam) DeCapua of Elizabethtown and Cordelia ""Sis"" (Harold) Rosendahl of California; five grandchildren, Steven (Jessica) Shoemaker, Teresa (Thor) Shoemaker of Henderson, Cassie Shoemaker of Louisville, Brennen (Tiffany) Mayhew of Lexington and Brittany (Damon) Lasley of Clarkson; and four great-grandchildren, Jaylyn Shoemaker, Camden Shoemaker and Kajsa Hogberg of Henderson and Tyee Mayhew of Lexington.

Cremation was chosen by Gertie.

Visitation and a celebration of her life is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 15, at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Vine Grove. A Mass follows at noon with the Rev. Daniel Lincoln officiating. Burial follows in the church cemetery.

to Gertie's family I send prayers and sympathy. What a wonderful woman. I am so sorry I am unable to attend Gertie's funeral. She was such a good friend to the Mount.She kept our alumna association alive for many years. We will surely miss her. May she rest in God's love and life. May each of you be consoled.

It saddens my heart to hear of Gertie's passing. My family and I loved her dearly. I pray that God will comfort the family during this time of grief. I will NEVER forget Gertie because she provided many hours of fun and laughter to all who knew her. Rest in Peace my friend.
