James Earl "Jim" Daley

James Earl "Jim" Daley, 78, of Flaherty, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at Signature Healthcare of Elizabethtown.

Jim retired from Bell South Telephone. He was a member of North Hardin Christian Church. As a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and recipient of the silver star, he frequently was found wearing a hat to let people know he proudly served our country

He was preceded in death by a son, William Lloyd Wheatley; and three brothers, William Daley, Johnny Daley and Pete Daley.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shirley Daley of Flaherty; two sons, James Wayne Wheatley (Kerry Ann) of Flaherty and Matthew Ray " P. J." Wheatley of Harned; four brothers, Whitson Daley (Mary) of Ekron, Walter Daley of Irvington, Marvin Daley (Theresa) and Mark Daley (Tammy), all of Flaherty; two sisters, Tiny Bowen of Vine Grove and Barbara Powell (Barry) of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, James Earl Wheatley, Brandi N. Laughner, Sarah M. (Logan) Hertel, Dustin R. Wheatley and Levi R. Wheatley; three great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Tom Blackburn (MaryAnne) and Donnie Hopkins (Linda); two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Daley and Sandra Daley, both of Ohio; Donna Hopkins, who was like a daughter; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove, with Brother Ronald Hockman and Brother Thomas Blackburn officiating. Burial with military honors follows at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Valley Station.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continues at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
