Retired 1st Sgt. Charles Weaver Sr. Obituary
Retired 1st Sgt. Charles Elvin Weaver Sr., born in Prattville, Alabama, on May 25, 1932, to Lewis and Lillian Weaver, went to be with Our Lord, his beloved wife, Doris L. Weaver, and his son, Charles E. Weaver Jr., in heaven on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Charles was a hero of the Korean War as a battlefield medic, receiving the Silver Star and Purple Heart for heroism in battle while saving the lives of three other service members before finally succumbing to his own wounds. He, also, received the bronze star and a multitude of trophies and awards for meritorious conduct and excellent marksmanship in his outstanding career of 30 years in the U.S. Army.
Charles served in the Vietnam War surviving two helicopter crashes. As a decorated marksman, in peacetime, he traveled the United States and Europe representing our country in many marksman championships.
After his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1978, Charles opened his own business, Weaver's Auto Service on Dixie Hwy. in Radcliff. He made many friends and enjoyed servicing automobiles, telling war stories and supporting our community.
Charles was a beloved husband and father. He enjoyed touring Europe with his family and upon returning to the United States, he and his wife welcomed their wonderful son, Charles E. Weaver Jr. The family enjoyed traveling, boating and keeping close ties with extended family.
He was a Christian and a deacon of the Southern Baptist Church for many years. He joined the Masonic Brotherhood of Alabama in 1955. He loved water skiing, snow skiing, sports and watching western movies.
Charles' smile, generosity, stories, heroism and love for his family will remain a part of his legacy and all those who knew him will not soon forget him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris L. Weaver; his son, Charles E. Weaver Jr.; his father, Lewis E. Weaver; his mother, Lillian E. Weaver (Dellashaw); and his four brothers, Kermin, Ward, Bailey and Orville Weaver.
Charles leaves behind his two daughters, Charla Angelynn Rendon (Weaver) and her husband, Reuben and Elizabeth Sabrina Nall (Weaver) and her husband, Mark; two granddaughters, Holly Christine Jenkins (Nall) and Erin Renea Hoagland (Nall); and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Alexander Jenkins, Alexandria Elizabeth Jenkins, Cora Catherine Hoagland and Miles Hoagland; his two sisters, Virginia Hall (Weaver) and Hazel Bishop (Weaver); his brother, Rayburn Weaver; and two sisters-in-law, Gail Salega and Sharon Wibalda and their respective families.
The funeral for Mr. Weaver is at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, in the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove with Pastor Faron Knopp officiating. Burial with military honors follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
