A Life ...
A life is not measured by the years nor the months ...
But by the impressions that it gave during moments ...
Along the journey ... impressions from a smile ...
Perhaps of a certain kind of laughter ... perhaps
Some characteristic actions ... of unfettered kindness ...
Or predictable total unselfishness ...
Maybe striking truthfulness ... honesty ... sacrifice ...
All of these mix to define one's character ... and give
The impressions that shape a being ....
Your Mother and Father made great impressions ...
And were a remarkable couple ...
I hope your family can gain some strength from these memories and words ...
At evening, blue skies fall to shadows ...
Green leaves of the tall trees grow dark ...
And the failing sun's golden rays ... leave the day's flowers ...
When facing such dark times ... I can find the poetry easier ...
After the examples your parents provided ...
And how important it is to be your self ... and see beauty first ...
The river's waters cannot hold
All the sun's light ... it splashes off the surface
Into sparkles ... reflected onto the leaves
Of the shore ... adding beauty ...
The butterfly floats from flower to flower ...
Our eyes should too ...
Hold each moment dearly ... and tenderly ...
Always take the high path ...
Never the low way ...
And at the end of the day ...
You will feel good about
Your impressions ...

To the Shamlin Family your parents were two of the most kindest, gentle caring people God created. I was a student at South Blvd Elementary waaaayyy back when Mr Shamlin taught, and a student at Mckinley Jr where Mrs Shamlin was our Guidance Conselor both had a monumental affect on my young lift and many many students during that era. They will be thoroughly missed on this side of heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you...Dr Kenyatta you how I adore you ✝❤

Dr Shamlin's huge garden backed up to my back yard on Halfway Tree Rd. I had many a conversation with him over the fence which always ended with hand me a bucket and I will give you some vegetables. I cherish our conversations and give of sharing his crop. He threw many of my children's baseballs back over the fence too. He is now benefiting from his love and gifts. RIP my friend

To Gwynn II, Kenyetta, Tasha, and Marc, I've known you all before you were born. One by one I witnessed the family grow while we were all members at Neely UMC. The Shamlin family had a strong connection at the church due to Rev. Shamlin's father having pastored the church. Your mother and father were great nurturers with you all. Nurturing with the love of family, church family, value of friends, but most of all with the word of God. There was so many activities and committees that they both served on at Neely. We had some great and fun times at Neely back in the days. The times at Camp Istrouma, church picnic/baseball games, and so many other fun activities. Your mother and father set the bar high for their love of you all and family. They were so proud of you all and your accomplishments. So FAMILY hold you heads up high, and think of those things that make you smile or even laugh when you think about them. God is able and will see you through.
